In 1992, when ‘Awaaz-E-Watan’ made its first
appearance on Fresno’s television sets, it was a
tentative and a very humble attempt on part of Gurpreet Mann
and his associates to make a difference in the
Central California's Punjabi cultural scene. The tremendous
positive response that the program garnered
encouraged Gurpreet to continue and expand on the
scope of the show. He was soon joined by Guddi Sidhu.
Together, the team took the program to new heights.
Over the years, they evolved their own distinct
style of hosting which was much loved and
appreciated. They had the privilege of meeting and
interviewing innumerable artists from various
fields, such as, actors, writers, singers, and
politicians. ‘Awaaz-E-Watan’ has become such an
integral part of the two hosts’ lives that they
cannot imagine life without it. An endeavor which
started out as a hobby soon became a passion which
has sustained their need to stay connected with
their homeland.
Guddi Sidhu, a homemaker but very actively involved
in various community activities lives with her
husband in Fresno. She has three grown children. Gurpreet Mann, a software consultant by profession, also lives in Fresno with his wife and two children. |
